3 people died when a Red Cross car was hit
The Russian military attacked the vehicles of the humanitarian mission of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Donetsk region. President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyi announced this on Thursday. In social networks, he published a photo of a burning truck with the emblem of the Red Cross.
As Zelensky writes, three people died, two more were wounded. “Peace must react firmly and principledly. Only together can peace force Russia to stop this terror and force Moscow to seek peace,” the message says.
Earlier, the authorities of the Donetsk region reported that the village of Veroliubovka came under artillery fire on Thursday morning, while a truck with humanitarian aid was destroyed, and three people were killed. Apparently, it is precisely this blow that Zelensky is writing about. The Russian military has not yet commented on it. There was also no comment from the Red Cross.
Zelensky also reported that the Russian military launched a missile attack on a cargo ship in the Black Sea. It is confirmed that it was transporting wheat for Egypt. According to Zelensky, there were no victims. The name of the vessel and the flag under which it sailed are not reported. The Russian military did not comment on reports of an alleged strike on a civilian vessel.
The Reuters agency, citing sources, reported that the strike was carried out on a ship located in the exclusive economic zone of Romania. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated the same. Representatives of the Romanian authorities stated that the incident did not occur in Romanian territorial waters, without providing any other details.
The day before, the Ministry of Defense of Russia reported on the failure of the Ukrainian military’s attempt to seize a drilling rig in the Black Sea. At the same time, as confirmed by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine and as recognized by Russian pro-military bloggers, a Russian Su-30 aircraft was shot down from a MANPADS system, two pilots were killed. It is not yet clear if the reports about the battle in the Black Sea are connected with today’s report about the attack on the grain truck.
