Since the beginning of 2024, the Office of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language has received 421 complaints regarding violations of language legislation on the Internet.
This is almost 50% less than in the same period last year, reported language ombudsman Taras Kremin.
Internet resources of state authorities and local self-government, enterprises, institutions, organizations and media, as well as business entities must be presented in the state language.
Versions in other languages may also exist. However, the volume of information in them should not be greater than in the Ukrainian language.
In addition, the version of the resource in the national language should be downloaded by default.
In 2024, 161 economic entities were taken under control based on citizens’ complaints. Most of them have already eliminated violations of the language law.
As of September 10, 49 warnings were issued and 16 fines were imposed for the lack of a Ukrainian-language version of the site or for loading the site by default in a non-state language.
The language ombudsman noted that many Internet resources do not publish their registration information on the website, which makes it difficult to prosecute them.
“Regarding those internet representative offices, for which it was not possible to establish the business entity, I constantly appeal to the National Police of Ukraine and the State Tax Service of Ukraine to identify the violators and bring them to justice. And they will not get away with only a fine for violating the language legislation.
I want to assure the citizens that for each of the reports of violations on the Internet, we carry out appropriate work, and if the facts are confirmed, the violator is identified, we use the entire arsenal of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses: issue a warning or impose a fine on those who have not eliminated the violation.” , – noted Taras Kremin.
He also added that some violators have already received increased fines for repeated violations.
Violators of the requirements of the law regarding the state language on the Internet can be brought to administrative responsibility and fined in the amount of 200 to 300 tax-free minimum incomes of citizens (from 3,400 to 5,100 hryvnias).
If this is the first case, you can limit yourself to a warning.
A fine of 500 to 700 tax-free minimums (8,500-11,900 hryvnias) is imposed for repeated violations within a year.
We will remind, in Ivano-Frankivsk soon may appear language inspectors – they will ensure that the Ukrainian language remains the main language in the city.
