A brilliant star cluster was filmed by Hubble: it may contain a black hole

The Hubble telescope took an image of a cluster of stars, which astronomers named NGC 6325.

Scientists suggest that there may be a black hole inside it, NASA reports.

This cluster is located at a distance of about 26,000 light years from Earth in the constellation Ophiuchus.

Globular clusters such as NGC 6325 are tightly bound collections of stars, numbering from tens of thousands to millions. They can be found in all types of galaxies – they are natural laboratories for astronomers studying star formation“, scientists explain.

NASA adds that stars that are part of globular clusters usually form at about the same time and have a similar initial composition.

Researchers became interested in the NGC 6325 cluster because it may contain an intermediate-mass black hole. It, in turn, can imperceptibly affect the movement of surrounding stars, astronomers believe.

Previous studies have shown that the distribution of stars in some highly concentrated globular clusters was somewhat different from what astronomers expected.

“This suggests that at least some of these close-packed globular clusters, including possibly NGC 6325, may have a black hole lurking at the center.” – adds NASA.

It will be recalled that scientists recently calculated the wind speed caused by black holes.
