A former mercenary of PMC “Wagner” was sentenced in Khakassia to 8 years for murder

The court in Khakassia found private Andrey Ashcheulov guilty of premeditated murder and sentenced him to eight years in a penal colony. This was reported by the press service of the Second Eastern District Military Court. Ashcheulov was previously the leader of the so-called Kuragin organized crime group, and then a mercenary of PMC “Wagner” and a participant in the war in Ukraine.

According to the Abakan Garrison Military Court, in May 2024 Ashcheulov, being intoxicated, shot a local resident in the head with his hunting rifle. The cause of dissatisfaction was the victim’s remark about how Ashcheulov parked the car.

Ashcheulov killed 50-year-old Anatoly Khokhlov in rural Bolshaya Irba, relatives of the victim told Sibir.Realii. He was riding by on a bicycle and made a remark about the car. Ashcheulov, without saying anything, shot.

  • It was previously reported that in 2019, Andrey Ashcheulov, a resident of Kuragino district center, was sentenced to 18 years and 2 months in a special regime colony for 11 episodes of extortion, robbery, beatings, carjacking, as well as for threatening a journalist from Abakan, Mikhail Afanasyev.
  • Ashcheulov received a pardon, took part in hostilities in Ukraine as part of the PMC “Wagner”. After returning from the front, he lived in the village of Bolshaya Irba, where he came from.
  • Reports of serious crimes, including murder and rape, committed by returnees from the war against Ukraine regularly appear in the mass media. Hundreds of such cases are already known.
