A Kalmyk politician who was not admitted to Mongolia flew to the United States

A member of the Congress of the Oirat-Kalmyk people, the former head of the branch of the “Yabloko” party in Kalmykia, Batyr Boromangnaev flew to the USA after he was not allowed to enter Mongolia. He spent more than a week at the Ulaanbaatar airport, unable to return to Russia.

Former President of Mongolia Tsakhiagyin Elbegdorj published On Twitter, there is a clip showing Boromangnaev boarding. The video is captioned: “Goodbye, Batyr!” — attention is drawn to the editorial office of Idel.Realii.

Boromangnaev arrived in Ulaanbaatar from Kazakhstan on February 23 and requested political asylum there. He was refused entry to Mongolia. The reason for the ban was the expiration of his Russian passport — the document was valid until February 22.

Initially, the politician planned to enter the country two days earlier, when his passport was still valid. But he was detained while trying to leave Kazakhstan.

For 5 days, local activists opposing the war in Ukraine and for the right of the Mongolian peoples of Russia to repatriate, were on duty at the airport and monitored the observance of Boromangnaev’s rights. Later, the League of Free Nations, which unites the national movements of several peoples of Russia, reported that the office of the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees in Bangkok was occupied by Boromangnaev’s case.

A day later, information appeared that the politician received permission to fly to the United States despite the fact that his passport had expired. It is not specified which organization obtained this permission.
