A language scandal happened at the Dnipro school: the teacher was reprimanded

In Dnipro, the teacher spoke to the students in Russian during the lesson. After the mother of one of the students made a remark, her daughter began to be bullied by other children. The woman herself was removed from the parent chat. The teacher and director of the school were reprimanded for the incident, Radio Svoboda reports. What happened and can such situations be prevented in the future? The schoolgirl with whom the incident happened is studying in two schools at once: abroad, where she is with her mother in a forced evacuation, and in Dnipro itself. According to the girl’s mother, during the remote lesson, she made a remark to the teacher about her language of communication, because she was nearby and heard her speak Russian. I joined in: turned on the microphone, introduced myself as the mother of such and such a student, and asked her to conduct the lesson in Ukrainian,” the woman said. The teacher became indignant. She emphasized that it was her native language, and she had not started the lesson yet. According to the schoolgirl’s mother, the remote lesson starts from the first second of connection. After the conflict, her daughter was kicked out of the online class. Could not connect again – the teacher did not accept the request. The woman claims that then the bullying of her child began. Later, classmates and their parents joined in bullying the child, according to her mother. They frankly said that the child should be transferred to another class. The child’s mother adds that her daughter experienced the incident hard and was depressed. After publicizing the situation, the schoolgirl’s mother claims, the parents’ committee asked her for an apology. She considers him formal. She also made an official request to the school directorate. There, in response to the appeal, a meeting and a meeting of the commission on child bullying were held. In her opinion, it was also a formality. After the incident, the mother began to complain to various authorities. In particular, to the school principal. The administration of the institution informed the woman that the whole situation was clarified and the fact of bullying was not discovered. What the management of the educational institution says The headmistress of the school where the incident happened confirmed its fact and the fact that the children later insulted a classmate. The head of the educational institution noted that after the incident, the teacher was hospitalized, the school held a parent meeting and an educational hour for children, and invited a police officer who conducted a conversation. The director also noted that the school convened a commission regarding the fact of bullying, but it was not confirmed. The woman also claims that she filed an appeal to the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language and a statement to the National Police. The answer is still waiting. Taras Kremin confirmed the fact that he was contacted regarding the violation of the language law at the Dnipro school during the educational process. “I made a decision to implement measures of state control over the use of the state language,” says the Commissioner. Due to the large number of documents from various authorities, in particular from the police, the inspection was extended for a month. The ombudsman reported that the teacher, who was accused of violating the language legislation and harassing the student, is abroad and conducts lessons remotely. The commissioner confirmed that an administrative penalty was applied to the teacher – a reprimand for violating the language legislation. This measure was also applied to the headmistress of the school where the incident happened. According to the ombudsman, the school administration on its own initiative invited him to the educational institution and admitted his guilt.
