A record number of Russian servicemen died in two weeks

Over the past two weeks, 1,638 Russian servicemen and mercenaries of PMC Wagner have died in the war with Ukraine. These are record losses for all time according to “Mediazone”, BBC and volunteers.

The total number of dead since the beginning of the war, according to the data that was verified, was 16,774.

“Mediazona” claims that the most significant increase in the number of dead is at PMC Wagner, and the largest losses were recorded among prisoners recruited by the company.

Bakhmut remains the main direction for Russian troops, writes the publication. Journalists know the names of 800 people who died there.

“Mediazona” emphasizes that the number of confirmed, with names, who died in the war, may not reflect the real level of losses of Russian troops. It can be several times more.

Most funerals come to the Sverdlovsk and Chelyabinsk regions, Bashkiria, Buryatia and Dagestan. The large number of reports of deaths from the Krasnodar region is explained, among other things, by the fact that here volunteers visit cemeteries and photograph the graves of soldiers.

• The Ministry of Defense of Russia does not disclose data on personnel losses and does not comment on the figures reported by journalists. The authorities of Ukraine also do not report the number of dead soldiers.
• According to Western intelligence estimates, the losses of the Russian army in killed and wounded may reach 200 thousand people – up to 60 thousand of them could die.
• In November, the Pentagon announced that the losses on both sides, Russia and Ukraine, presumably amount to 100 thousand people each; Washington did not comment on the doubling of estimates.
• In the conditions of hostilities, it is difficult to quickly verify the messages of the warring parties.
