A request was submitted to President Volodymyr Zelenskyi asking him to change the approach to the implementation of the daily national minute of silence for the dead.
This was reported by public organization “Vshanui” and People’s Deputy, the author of the request Natalia Pipa.
“A moment of silence is a daily ritual of thanksgiving and remembrance. We often say why it is important and that it is only the first step in creating a new culture of commemoration.” – noted in the organization.
The decree on the nationwide minute of silence is effective from March 16, 2022. However, according to Natalia Pipa, during these two years, the moment of silence is most often held in educational institutions and individual private enterprises.
“In some cities, military families spend a minute of silence blocking central streets at 9:00. And only sometimes, on streets and squares, a minute of silence is held centrally, on the initiative of local self-government.
It is a very contrasting sight when one person stands up for a moment of silence in transport or in a cafe, and everyone around is indifferent – someone forgot, and someone did not know about the moment of silence.” – she notes.
Therefore, the deputy called for the use of civil defense notification systems, which are used to announce an air alert, to announce a nationwide moment of silence.
She also emphasized the need to hold a moment of silence in institutions and organizations of all forms of ownership, public places, in particular executive and local self-government bodies, diplomatic institutions, educational, cultural, sports, health care, public catering, etc.
