A resident of Norilsk was arrested for “derogatory posts” about the army

The court in Norilsk arrested local resident Sergey Kurylenko for seven days on an administrative case of inciting hatred or enmity. Taiga.Info edition drew attention to the message of the city court.

According to the court, in 2022, Kurylenko published posts on Facebook containing “derogatory statements directed at groups of persons belonging to social groups.” The publications talked about the Russian military, taking part in the invasion of Ukraine, as well as their mothers. Kurylenko admitted his guilt and explained that he made the publications to support relatives living in Ukraine. Social networks Facebook and Instagram are blocked in Russia after the Meta company was recognized as an extremist organization.

According to the prosecutor’s office, Kurylenko quit his job and sold his apartment in Norilsk, intending to leave the city. In the future, he was going to consider moving to Ukraine.

  • After the beginning of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, new administrative and criminal articles were adopted on the so-called fakes and discrediting of the Russian army. According to them, anti-war statements and any statements about the war in Ukraine that do not coincide with the official position of the Ministry of Defense are considered an offense.
  • In February 2022, Roskomnadzor, under the threat of blocking, demanded that the Russian mass media use only “official Russian information” in covering the invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, the Russian authorities insist on observing their own terminology, according to which the invasion of Ukraine should be called a “special military operation”. Since the beginning of the war in Russia, the sites of dozens of independent mass media, thousands of different resources, as well as Twitter, Facebook and Instagram have been blocked.
