In Ukraine, a serviceman of the Russian Armed Forces, a native of the Kyrgyz Republic, will be tried in absentia for the rape of a woman during the occupation of the Kharkiv region in early July 2022.

During the pre-trial investigation, it was established that the Russian participated in the military invasion of the territory of Ukraine. As part of the army of the aggressor country, the serviceman occupied part of the Kharkiv region at the beginning of July 2022.
In a comment for “UP. Life”, the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office said that in one of the occupied settlements, a 20-year-old Russian serviceman demanded from a local woman he met on the side of the road to have sex with him.
“After hearing the refusal, the accused hit the victim on the head and face with the butt of a machine gun.– they added there.
As a result, the victim suffered a fracture of the nasal bones. Later, the occupier, continuing to strike, forcibly dragged the woman into a forest near the road, where he tore her clothes and raped her.
She managed to break free and hide in a field that was marked with signs saying “Mines”. At that time, an armed Russian demanded the victim to return, threatening to kill her.
In the end, the occupier stopped looking for the woman in the minefield and returned to the column of Russian soldiers after a certain time.
Prosecutors sent the indictment against the Russian serviceman to the court – he will be tried for violating the laws and customs of war (Part 1 of Article 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the Office of the Prosecutor General, as of October 1, 2024, law enforcement officers recorded 321 cases of sexual violence associated with a full-scale invasion.
Most of the victims were women – 206, 115 men were also affected by violence from the occupiers, 16 of them were minors.
According to the calculations of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the largest number of facts of sexual violence were established in the Kherson (99), Donetsk (77) and Kyiv (59) regions.
“Prosecutors recorded the crimes of the Russian military, such as rape and torture, as well as gender-based violence against mothers, wives, sisters of the Armed Forces of the Armed Forces – all this is nothing but patterns – a weapon to destroy a nation Ukrainians (genocide)”– noted the Office of the General Prosecutor.
