A Russian who criticized the war in Ukraine was detained in Kazakhstan

Evgeny Nakaznenko, an entrepreneur with Russian citizenship, was detained in Kazakhstan. He posted videos criticizing the war in Ukraine on the Internet. Because of this, Nakaznenko was put on the international wanted list by the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia. Now he may face extradition.

In Russia, a criminal case was initiated against Nakaznenko under the articles of so-called fakes about the army and “calls for terrorism.” What exactly became the reason for the persecution is not specified. In his Instagram account, the businessman posted videos in which he spoke against the war, and also reflected on Russian politics.

Opposition journalist Evgenia Baltatarova writes that Nakaznenko’s videos attracted the attention of Kazakh pro-Russian blogger Anton Budarov, who called on the Russian authorities to punish the businessman.

According to “OVD-Info”, Nakaznenko was detained at Almaty airport, where he was going to fly to Turkey on business. He did not know about the criminal case and the search and did not ask to hide. By the court’s decision, he was sent to Almaty pre-trial detention center for 40 days – as indicated, “under extradition arrest”.

Yevgeny Nakaznenko is Ukrainian by nationality. He has Russian citizenship. Since 2007, he has lived in Kazakhstan, where he founded the “Oxford Team” foreign language school.
