Alexey Navalny testified in the case of Lilia Chanysheva

Politician Alexey Navalny, who is in a high-security prison, testified in the case of his associate Lilia Chanysheva. Chanysheva is accused of organizing an extremist community and calling for extremism. Navalny’s anti-corruption fund, as well as Navalny’s headquarters, have been declared an extremist community in Russia.

Navalny appeared in court from the colony via video link. It is not reported what exact questions the judges asked him and what testimony he gave. Chanysheva also managed to ask Navalny about his life in prison and the provocations against him, which, as Navalny previously reported, were arranged by the colony’s leadership. The opposition asked her not to worry.

Liliya Chanysheva has been the head of Navalny’s headquarters in Ufa since 2017. She is accused in the “joint criminal case” against Navalny and his closest associates, which is conducted by the Main Investigative Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia. In total, the accused Chanysheva may face up to 18 years in prison.

• Liliya Chanysheva was arrested on November 10, 2021 in Ufa. Prior to that, the activist and a number of other Ufa supporters of Alexei Navalny were searched. She is in a pre-trial detention center. Chanyshev does not admit his guilt.
• In December 2021, the Memorial Human Rights Center recognized Lilia Chanysheva as a political prisoner.
