In Ulan-Ude, the actor of the State Russian Drama Theater named after Bestuzhev Artur Shuvalov opened his veins on stage in protest against the dismissal of artistic director Sergey Levitsky for his anti-war stance.

Before his resignation, Shuvalov said that the management of the theater had been putting pressure on him and other actors for a year, threatening to fire them if they stood up for Levytskyi.

“For a year, I have been asked to fire them, humiliate them, deprive them of work and money. Today they fired my wife Svetlana Polyanskaya (actress of the same theater. Approx. RS). I don’t want to put up with it… Forgive me, please. I’m tired. I want to say: Vyacheslav Mykhailovych Dyachenko, Natalya Nikolaevna Svetozarova (theater director Approx. RS.) – these people are to blame for my death,” Shuvalov said from the stage when the troupe came out to bow after the performance. It is noted that the actor is now in the hospital.

The former artistic director of GRDT Serhiy Levytskyi was fired an hour ago after he condemned the war in Ukraine. Many actors also spoke out against the war – for example, they removed a poster with the letter Z from the theater building. After that, the new artist of the State Technical University, Vyacheslav Dyachenko, called the actors “representatives of the oldest profession” and said that he intends to put on performances that are “simpler and easier to understand for ordinary people.”
