Another criminal case under the article of defamation has been initiated against TV presenter Andrey Karaulov. The investigation was started after the statement of director Nikita Mikhalkov. This is reported by RBC with reference to Karaulov’s lawyer Alexander Obozov.
Earlier, the TV presenter publicly accused Mikhalkov of cutting down forests in the Nizhny Novgorod region. The case was initiated in Nizhny Novgorod, but was later transferred to Moscow. Law enforcement officers conducted searches at the addresses associated with the journalist.
According to the defamation article, Karaulova faces up to two years in prison. Now the TV presenter is abroad.
Last November, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia declared Karaulov wanted. In the same month, his house in the suburbs of Moscow was searched in connection with a criminal defamation case against the head of Rostec state corporation Sergei Chemezov. According to representatives of the corporation, the journalist published “rumors and speculations, detached from reality, without bothering to verify the necessary information.”
