Antonina Samoilova became the first Ukrainian woman to climb Everest twice


On the morning of May 24, mountaineer Antonina Samoilova climbed the highest peak of the globe, Mount Everest.

She announced this on her Instagram page.

A few minutes before dawn, at 4:30 a.m. on May 24, the mountaineer climbed to the top of Everest for the second time in her life.

In her post, Antonina said that she had planned an oxygen-free ascent, but it became impossible due to illness during the expedition and weather conditions.

Again I raised the flag of my beautiful country on top of the world! It flew above all flags at that moment as a symbol of freedom and indomitable spirit“, the climber wrote.

In the commentary of “UP. Life”, Antonina Samoilova said that she became the first Ukrainian woman to climb Everest twice.

This year, the climber planned to become the 10th woman in the world to climb Mount Everest “without oxygen”.

“In the second week of the expedition, I became very ill and climbing without oxygen became life-threatening. In one of the high-altitude camps, I felt extremely weak and could not even leave the tent. In the end, I made the decision to continue the expedition and try to climb with oxygen.”Antonina said.

She added that her strength returned to her during the climb.

“We also descended quite quickly, 7 hours to the summit, and descended to the base camp on the same day. In total, it took 25 hours.” – said the woman.

Antonina Samoilova has been engaged in mountaineering since 2018. For the first time, she raised the Ukrainian flag on Everest in 2022.
