Armenia has released an American wanted in Russia to the United States
Armenia has released to the USA the citizen of this country Eric Thomas Krimer, who was declared wanted by the Russian authorities.
Prior to that, an American could not leave the territory of Armenia for three years – despite the fact that he was not extradited to Russia either.
Krimer was detained in Moscow in April 2017 and accused of drug possession. He himself claimed that the police had given him drugs, while at the same time demanding 500,000 rubles for the termination of the criminal case.
Later, the US citizen was released on a bond not to leave, he was able to fly to his family, but he was put on an interstate wanted list.
In 2021, Krimer was already detained in Armenia when he came there on vacation. For a long time, the Armenian authorities could not decide what to do with the American further: according to his lawyer, they did not extradite the detainee at Russia’s request because they did not want to spoil relations with the United States, but they did not let him go home either.
Last year, Krimer applied for political asylum in Armenia, but was refused.
