The son of the former governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Artyom Uss, was helped to escape from Italy by a criminal group from Serbia. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal with reference to the source. The USA accused Uss of circumventing sanctions and demanded his extradition. He escaped from house arrest immediately after the court of first instance decided to extradite him to the United States.

According to the publication, Uss crossed several borders on his way to Serbia, changed his car at least once, and then flew to Moscow. At the same time, according to the Italian mass media, citizens of several European countries helped Ussu to escape.

The Italian authorities suspect that the Russian special services were directly involved in the “operation”, as they would have been under surveillance.

At the same time, as the publication notes, Uss himself was not closely monitored, which allowed him to leave the house unimpeded. He was placed under house arrest, since courts in Italy relatively rarely send suspects to custody, preferring other measures of restraint.

  • In March, Uss escaped from house arrest in Milan. Ego was detained in October 2022. This happened after Italy approved the extradition of USS to the US in the case of the supply of electronics and Venezuelan oil to circumvent sanctions, money laundering and bank fraud.
  • The Italian prosecutor’s office believes that Uss left home on March 22 and left for Slovenia via the city of Trieste, changed several cars and used false documents. From there he arrived in Serbia, from where he already flew to Russia.
  • At the beginning of April, Artyom Uss announced his return to Russia, where he was declared on the federal wanted list of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (this measure allows for the extradition of a citizen to the country). He voluntarily came to the investigative department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Moscow. The court changed Ussa’s restraining order from absentee arrest to a restraining order.
  • The Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Alexander Uss, thanked the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, for his help in returning his son, without specifying how he managed to get out of Italy and get to Russia. At the end of April, he resigned from the post of governor.
