Western publications report with reference to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine that on Monday evening Russian cruise missiles “Calibre” were destroyed, which were transported by train in the city of Jankoi in the Crimea occupied by Russia.

As noted by the CNN channel, the Ukrainian authorities did not directly claim responsibility for the attack on the Crimean logistics center Jankoy, but stated that it was aimed at further “demilitarization of Russia and preparation of the Crimean peninsula for deoccupation.”

As reported by the Main Directorate of Intelligence of Ukraine, Kalibr NK missiles are designed to be launched from surface ships of the Russian Black Sea Fleet, their range is more than 2,500 kilometers against land targets and 375 kilometers against sea targets.

“Mysterious “cotton” continues the process of Russia’s demilitarization and prepares the Ukrainian peninsula of Crimea for deoccupation,” said the GUR message in Telegram.

The Russian-appointed head of the annexed peninsula, Serhiy Aksyonov, confirmed that there had been a strike in the north of the peninsula and that the region’s air defense system had been activated, but his statement did not mention that cruise missiles were the target of the attack. Aksyonov said that as a result of the attack, one person was injured and two buildings were damaged, reports CNN.

As the British newspaper Guardian notes, the strike was probably carried out by a drone. The video of the explosion shows that it was immediately preceded by a loud buzzing of the engine, similar in sound to the Iranian kamikaze drones, which were previously used to attack Ukraine.

The video related to the explosion was shared by an adviser to the Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Anton Gerashchenko. “This video is reported to be from Jankoy. The voice says it’s the train station area,” he added on Twitter.

As the Guardian correspondent notes, Dzhankoya is home to a Russian air base, which, according to Ukraine, has been turned into a large logistics base deep behind the front line. From there, Moscow replenishes its forces to protect the territories it has captured in the south of Ukraine.

Journalist Christopher Millerwho is now a correspondent for the Financial Times, writes that “with a wink, Ukrainian military intelligence says that ‘cotton’ is back at work.”

“This time, an explosion in the city of Dzhankoy in the north of occupied Crimea destroyed the Russian Kalibr cruise missiles that were being transported by rail,” Miller wrote in a Twitter message.

Former adviser to the National Security Council of Georgia George Revishviliwho is now a Fulbright Scholar at the Bush School in Texas, publishes a photo of what he calls fragments of a Mugin-5 Pro UAV “used by the Ukrainians to attack a railway junction in temporarily Russian-occupied Dzhankoy, Crimea.”

“The Yao Ming sticker meme is very funny,” he adds of the image of the Chinese basketball player on the wing of a drone, a meme often used by social media users in online discussions to convey disdain for someone’s opinion.

The Mugin-5 Pro drone is Chinese-made, the manufacturing company reports on its website that its maximum flight time is more than 7 hours. The maximum take-off weight can be up to 90 kg, and the payload – up to 25 kg. The price of this modification is about 9.5 thousand US dollars.
