Britain announced sanctions against the Russian Federation: there are companies from the orbit of “Rosatom” and the occupying “director” of the ZNPP

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced new sanctions against Russia: in particular, companies close to Rosatom will be targeted, as well as individuals and legal entities involved in the theft of Ukrainian grain.

Sanctions were imposed on 86 individuals and organizations related to the energy, metallurgical, defense, transport and financial sectors of the Russian Federation.

In particular, sanctions against energy sector the aggressor includes restrictions against 9 organizations associated with the Russian state nuclear company Rosatom:

  • UMATEX, which produces composite materials for Rosatom that can be used for military purposes
  • “TRINITY”, whose research and development in the field of laser physics is directly financed at the expense of the state defense order of the Russian Federation. These lasers were installed on tank chassis in order to blind the optics of aircraft and disable high-precision weapons.

The occupation “director” of the Zaporizhzhya NPP Oleg Romanenko, who was in collusion with the Russian government, was also included in the list; the operating organization of ZANP, 13 members of the board of directors of Gazprom-Nafta and 5 members of the board of directors of Transneft.

Next, sanctions apply transport sector, namely, 24 organizations and individuals involved in the theft of Ukrainian grain: Powell Shipping Co LLP, “State Grain Corporation” (GZK) and its director Nikita Busel, who are associated with the systematic theft of Ukrainian grain. Grain and other foodstuffs were stolen by the occupiers in the temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine and exported under the label “Russian goods”.

Also under sanctions are six large Russian shipping companies that help Russia circumvent sanctions, including Sun Ship Management, which is associated with Sovkomflot, Russia’s largest state-owned shipping company.

Regarding further sanctions on military complex, 20 heads of defense departments were added to the list – these are individuals and organizations that equip the Russian armed forces, in particular, PMK “Wagner”. Among those who have been sanctioned are Alan Lushinkov and Vladimir Lepin, who are directors of Kalashnikov Concern JSC, which produces 95% of all firearms in the Russian Federation.

Also under new sanctions on the military industry are BMZ JSC, which produces anti-personnel and anti-tank mines, and Motovylihinske JSC, a “daughter” of the Russian defense conglomerate Rostec, which produces howitzers. The products of these companies are used by the Russian armed forces against Ukraine.

Of metallurgy, Igor Altushkin, the billionaire oligarch who owns the Russian Copper Company, was sanctioned. As the third largest copper producer in Russia, Altushkin and his business continue to play a key role in the strategic sector.

8 other companies linked to the production of metals in Russia were also sanctioned, and along with this, Britain announced an embargo on Russian metals, including aluminium, nickel and copper.

Finally, sanctions apply financial sphere. Five financial institutions were sanctioned, including Dom RF JSC, which operates on behalf of the Russian government, and Metallurgical Investment Bank, which supports Russian industrial exports.
