In the Chernivtsi region, prosecutors brought charges against a 37-year-old man who systematically committed domestic violence against his wife.

He was imprisoned for 2 years, reported in the Prosecutor General’s Office.

The law enforcement officers note that the man, being in a state of alcoholic intoxication, systematically insulted, intimidated, humiliated and threatened his wife with physical violence.

“All this happened in the presence of children“, the law enforcement officers add.

Previously, the man had already served a sentence for committing domestic violence – correctional labor and 6 months’ imprisonment.

But this did not affect the behavior of the accused. The fact that his wife is expecting their eighth child did not stop him either.

After registering another case of domestic violence, which happened in January 2024, the law enforcement officers initiated the transfer of the mother and children to the international crisis center for mothers and children “Misto Dobra”.

The OGP reminded that it is possible to receive qualified counseling to combat domestic violence:

  • on the government hotline 1547;
  • on the national hotline for children and youth at 116 111 or 0800 500 225;
  • on Instagram: childhotline_ua;
  • in Telegram: CHL116111;
  • on the national hotline for the prevention of domestic violence, human trafficking and gender discrimination: 0800 500 335 or 116 123 (short number from mobile).

There are also a number of public organizations that can provide not only professional help, but also shelter for women and children.

Recall that “Cities of goodness” – an organization that provides shelter for mothers with children in Chernivtsi. There is also a hospice for children, a shelter for children from boarding schools and old women who were evacuated from the frontline areas, and even for tailgaters.
