Children will be forcibly evacuated from Bakhmut: on March 7, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the relevant mechanism. Last year, Ukraine passed a resolution on mandatory evacuation, which was announced only in the Donetsk region. The new resolution was adopted as an extension of the mandatory evacuation from the combat zone, Iryna Vereshchuk, the Minister of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories, announced on the telethon on March 8. Vereshchuk explained how children will be evacuated from Bakhmut and whether they will be separated from their families if their parents refuse to leave. “We have gradations: territories that are encircled and blocked, where active hostilities are taking place, where hostilities are possible. All this is noted by the General Staff and the Ministry of Defense for the submission of OVA, – says Vereshchuk. Currently, active hostilities continue in 132 communities . However, forced evacuation will only be in Bakhmut, Vereshchuk emphasizes. Children will be forcibly evacuated from Bakhmut “Due to mistakes, due to what we saw during the mandatory evacuation, we realized that our Defense Forces, National Police, State Emergency Service, OVA do not have enough tools. And we expanded such a toolkit for our evacuation teams that take children out of shelling. There are several safeguards there, we are aware of the fact that there are no abuses, so that people do not worry,” says the minister. Iryna Vereshchuk assures that children will not be separated from their relatives and evacuated unaccompanied by adults. Compulsory evacuation of children will be carried out accompanied by one of the parents, a person who replaces them, or another legal representative. “Under no circumstances will we separate a child from his family. If an adult makes the decision, he must sign the appropriate form and refuse to evacuate. If there is a minor dependent child, this option does not work for one of the adults. They are obliged to accompany the child to the place where the evacuation will be carried out,” says Vereshchuk. When asked what will happen to the children if the parents categorically refuse to leave, the minister replied: “The experience of the last month shows that if our National Police or evacuation groups arrive at a place where a child is with an adult, as a rule, people do not refuse. The most important thing for us is to find these locations.” We will remind, there are currently 38 children in Bakhmut. According to Vereshchuk, 12,000 children lived in the city until August. “Children who are in the war zone cannot take care of themselves. Therefore, all responsibility for them lies with adults. Refusal of parents or guardians to evacuate the child is not allowed. After all, it is about her life,” the Ministry of Reintegration adds. Read also: “It’s not full hell yet!”.
