The petition with the proposal to grant Iryna Farion the title of Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) will be considered at the meeting of the awards committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
This is stated in answers of Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal on a petition which collected the required number of signatures is September 5.
Denys Shmyhal noted that the title “Hero of Ukraine” is awarded to citizens who have performed a remarkable heroic deed or remarkable labor achievement.
In the response to the petition, the Prime Minister noted that nominations for the title of Hero of Ukraine should be made at the place of work. This is stated in of orderwhich was approved by the Presidential Decree “On the title of Hero of Ukraine”.
According to it, the members of the labor team should take the initiative to the body or organization of a higher level.
Instead, the relevant bodies, in particular the Ministry of Education and Science, send submissions to the President of Ukraine. It is he who has the necessary authority to confer the title of Hero of Ukraine by his decree.
We will remind, the author of the petition Mykhailo Shevelyuk, justifying the initiative, notedthat Iryna Farion is “a powerful professional and intellectual figure of the Ukrainian educational, cultural and political-nationalist movement.”
“For more than 20 years of her life, Iryna Farion systematically and consistently defended the state language and the identity of the Ukrainian people, which contributed to strengthening the national security of Ukraine and the position of our state as a self-sufficient entity on the political map of the world among other nations”the appeal states.
On the evening of July 19, 2024, People’s Deputy of the 7th convocation, professor of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” Iryna Farion received a firearm woundwhich became deadly.
The main version of the investigation is that prisoner the attacker tried to kill the woman because of a “personal grudge”, probably related to her political position.
The investigation into the murder of Iryna Farion is currently underway continues.
