European countries demand 20 billion dollars from Gazprom for undelivered gas – rosZMI
At least 19 companies from 11 European countries have filed lawsuits against Gazprom for breaching gas contracts, totaling 18.6 billion euros, or $20.6 billion.

The largest lawsuit – for 13 billion euros – was filed by the German concern Uniper, which was previously the main client of Gazprom in Germany and a co-investor of the Nord Stream 2 project. The company, which purchased 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia, demanded compensation for multibillion-dollar losses from the cessation of supply. In June 2024, the Stockholm arbitration fully satisfied her claim.
RWE – another German gas importer that used to receive 1 billion cubic meters every year – is demanding another $1 billion from Gazprom. French Engie has filed a lawsuit for arbitration, demanding more than 300 million euros from Gazprom.
In Austria, which continues to buy Russian gas, which covers about 90% of its consumption, the largest energy company OMV filed a lawsuit against Gazprom for 575.3 million euros.
In Finland, where Russian gas occupied 90% of the market before the war, the Gasum concern filed a lawsuit against Gazprom. In Italy – the energy giant Eni, which refused to comply with Vladimir Putin’s decree to pay for supplies in rubles.
In Poland, a lawsuit for 1.5 billion euros was filed against Gazprom by Europol Gaz, which managed the Polish section of the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline, which transported gas from Western Siberia to consumers in Germany. In the Czech Republic, Net4gas and Innogy Energie filed claims against Gazprom for undersupplied gas: the first one demands 113 million euros, the second – 78 million. In Switzerland, gas traders DXT Commodities and Axpo Solutions filed lawsuits totaling nearly €1 billion.
In the Netherlands, the gas transport system operator Gasunie Transport Services demands 275 million euros from Gazprom. Another lawsuit for non-use of reserved gas capacities was filed by BBL Company VOF. In Slovakia, ZSE Energia and Vychodoslovenska energetika are suing Gazprom, and in Bulgaria – the national gas operator Bulgargaz, which demands 400 million euros for termination of the contract.
The total amount of claims against Gazprom exceeded its net income from gas sales to all foreign markets combined: $10 billion a year from supplies to Europe and Turkey, $7 billion to China, and $2 billion from exports to the CIS and Central Asia. , according to BCS estimates.
