Fluffy and cute: polar explorers showed the chick of the main predator of Antarctica. VIDEO

Polar scientists showed a video of a chick of the main feathered predators of the Antarctic – the South Polar Skua (skua). Adults of this species prey on the eggs of baby penguins and other birds, the National Antarctic Science Center reports. Skuas also take food from blue-eyed cormorants and penguins when they return to their nests. “But the newborn chicks are still far from such “shaking up” – their parents take turns feeding them for the first time. Only after the down changes to feathers will they begin to fly and feed themselves. This happens about two months after birth,” the polar explorers add. According to them, skunks protect their offspring very aggressively – they will fight for them to the last. They are not afraid of anyone, especially people. When they see a threat to the cubs, they raise a cry. They begin to actively circle and can even beat their heads with their wings. We will remind, the employees of “Vernadskyi” filmed the funny descent of Weddell the seal cub from the snowy slope.
