For the first time, the court fined an online cinema for the article on “LGBT propaganda”

The St. Petersburg Magistrate’s Court fined the online cinema “Tricolor Cinema and TV” 1.2 million rubles for the article about “LGBT propaganda” among minors, another 200 thousand rubles fine was imposed on the company official. This is the first such decision, reports RBC.

The representative of Roskomnadzor did not specify which film or series caused the fine. The representative of the video service responded to RBC’s request that the content that caused the authorities’ questions was removed.

Earlier, Roskomnadzor drew up protocols on the article on “LGBT propaganda” in relation to almost all large online cinemas. At the moment, 19 such protocols have been drawn up, Roskomnadzor noted. RBC’s source on the media market reported that the regulator’s claims against most online cinemas are related to the 2016 film “Perfect Strangers”: in it one of the heroines comes out to her friends. The interlocutor of the publication clarified that the film is marked “16+” in service libraries, since it was with this age limit that the Ministry of Culture issued a rental certificate for this film.

  • Since December 2022, the dissemination of positive information about homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism has been prohibited in Russia. According to the law signed by President Vladimir Putin, fines of up to 400,000 rubles for citizens and up to four million rubles for organizations are provided for this.
  • After that, Roskomnadzor added more than 200 sites to the register of prohibited information, many bookstores removed from sale products that mention non-traditional sexual relations.
  • The law was sharply criticized by human rights and LGBT+ organizations, which noted that it increases stigmatization and discriminates against the LGBT+ community.
