Germany deported two Russian citizens for the first time since the beginning of the war

For the first time since the start of the war in Ukraine, Germany deported two Russians. As specified by Tagesschau, one of them was previously convicted in a criminal case.

The Bavarian Asylum and Deportation Office confirmed that the deportation took place back in March, but it was announced only now. According to the department, the Russians were taken by plane to Belgrade, from where they flew to their families.

After the start of the military invasion of Ukraine, Germany suspended deportations to Russia, as direct air traffic between the countries was canceled. In addition, contacts between the security services of Russia and Germany, which should coordinate deportations, are now reduced to a minimum.

Foreigners living in the country illegally, primarily those who commit crimes or are associated with terrorist organizations, are subject to deportation from Germany. As the Tagesschau emphasizes, more than half of such persons falling into the field of view of the police are citizens of Syria, Afghanistan or Russia, deportation to which is now difficult for various reasons.

Opponents of the deportation of Russians fear that their family may be drafted into the army or recruited into private military companies for the war in Ukraine.

In May, Germany granted political asylum to 55 Russian citizens fleeing the country from mobilization for the war.
