“Google tax”: Since the beginning of the year, Ukrainians have collected more than 3 billion in the state budget

Since the beginning of 2023 and as of May 24, international companies have transferred to the state budget almost UAH 3.2 billion of Google tax, which is paid by Ukrainian users of paid services on the Internet. Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Finance, Tax and Customs Policy Danylo Hetmantsev wrote about this in the Telegram channel.

How much was paid into the budget

In particular, companies paid UAH 1.9 billion in tax in the first quarter alone.

“According to the results of the simplified value added tax declarations submitted for the first quarter of 2023 by non-residents, almost 23.5 million euros and $27.1 million or UAH 1.9 billion were declared,” Hetmantsev emphasized.

The largest amounts were declared for the first quarter of 2023 by the companies Google Play, Google, Etsy, Sony, Netflix, Apple, Meta, Valve Software, Amazon.

The tax payment deadline for the first quarter of 2023 expires on June 9, so more than UAH 0.7 billion is still expected, Hetmantsev added.

As of April 1, there are 87 taxpayers on the tax register, which is 30 more non-residents than the number of persons registered at the beginning of April 2022.

The law on the “Google tax” fully entered into force on January 1, 2022. The document introduces European norms and obliges international Internet companies to pay 20% value added tax (VAT) in Ukraine.

Earlier, Hetmantsev noted that such giants as Facebook, Viber and others do not pay VAT. According to estimates, the state budget does not receive UAH 3 billion from advertising services alone.
