Artem Kolbasinskyi, a former ballet dancer of the Klaipeda State Music Theater (Lithuania), died at the front. The Ukrainian joined the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the fall of 2022.
About the death of a 24-year-old dancer told in the theater
“Unfortunately, not everyone returns from the war. Today we received the painful news that Artem Kolbasynskyi, a former ballet dancer of the Klaipeda State Music Theater, died on the battlefield in Ukraine.”– wrote former colleagues.
They said that Artem decided to return to his homeland shortly after the start of the full-scale invasion.
“I must return to my country and protect it from invaders. This is my duty both to the Motherland and to the relatives who remained there. But this decision was difficult, I will not hide it.”– said the actor in an interview with Lenző.lt in March 2022.
Artem Kolbasynskyi said that he would “lose his dignity and humanity” if he stayed to live peacefully in Lithuania.
“I am a physically strong 22-year-old guy, so I can help not only with my thoughts, but also by being in my country, fighting. Finances, moral support are also important, but I will be more useful with my real help.
Who will protect Ukraine if everyone sends funds and supports only in word, not in deed? Who will use the weapons bought with the collected money if all the people flee the country?” – then Artem asked rhetorical questions.
Artem was left without parents at the age of four. Having become an orphan, he also lost contact with his older brother and sister, because they were placed in different orphanages.
A year later, the future artist was adopted into a family, to which he was “very grateful”.
“I always knew that they were not my real parents. I don’t remember my biological parents, I have no memories of them.”the boy recalled.
It was the adoptive parents who took Artem to a professional dance school, and in 2019 he received a choreographer’s diploma from the Serzh Lyfar Kyiv Academy of Dance.
Immediately after that, he joined the ballet troupe of the Klaipeda State Music Theater in Lithuania.
