Her teeth and jaw hurt: in the Lviv region, doctors saved a woman with a myocardial infarction

Doctors saved the life of a 66-year-old woman from the village of Zhovtansi in the Lviv region, who came to them with complaints of piercing pain in her teeth and jaw.

The patient did not know that such symptoms could indicate a myocardial infarction, according to the Lviv Regional Center for Emergency Medical Aid and Disaster Medicine.

The doctor of the outpatient clinic, suspecting the specified diagnosis, performed an electrocardiogram on the woman, which confirmed her fears – the patient has an acute coronary syndrome (myocardial infarction).

The woman was immediately transferred to a specialized intensive care hospital.

“Paramedic Mykhailo Matsk and driver Ihor Slyusarchyk and I arrived in Zhovtanka. The ECG confirmed acute coronary syndrome with ST elevation. The patient is hemodynamically stable.

We put her on our stretchers and put her in the ambulance. We connected to the monitor, continued the treatment started in the outpatient clinic.” – says Iryna Kharchenko, a doctor of emergency medicine of the disaster medicine unit.

Already on the way, Iryna saw changes on the ECG (electrocardiography) – the patient developed ventricular tachycardia, which turned into ventricular fibrillation. The driver had to urgently stop the car and park on the side of the road. At this time, doctors started resuscitation measures in the emergency room.

According to Irina, one defibrillation was enough to restore the woman’s heart rhythm.

“The patient was unconscious, but the pulse on the carotid artery was restored. According to the protocol, we connected additional drugs, and the woman regained consciousness. She could not understand what was happening to her, she says that she does not remember anything.” – says Iryna Kharchenko.

“Shvidka” took the patient to the hospital, where a team of cardiologists was already waiting for her. Currently, the patient’s condition has been stabilized – she underwent angiography (x-ray examination of blood vessels) and a stent was placed. Currently, the woman is in the intensive care unit, added Iryna Kharchenko.
