Unidentified tankers move oil through the Gulf of Finland in the Baltic Sea after the G7 set a price cap of $60 and the EU and Great Britain imposed a ban on seaborne imports of Russian crude oil.

Euractiv writes about this, reports “European Truth”.

The introduced restrictions forced Moscow to increase long-distance transportation using dubious vessels.

The appearance of hundreds of tankers in poor technical condition in the already congested Gulf of Finland has increased risks to maritime safety and the environment.

In the event of an accident and oil spill, all the consequences could fall on countries such as Finland and Estonia, since the authorities do not know whether the “ghost tankers” are properly insured.

A similar view was expressed by Captain Lieutenant Tuomas Luukkonen of the Gulf of Finland Coast Guard: “We estimate that some of these vessels are staffed by crew who may not have sailed in the area before. This creates a risk of an accident.”

Earlier it was reported that in February 2023 Russia’s income from oil exports collapsed to the lowest figures for the yearprobably as a result of the marginal price introduced by Western countries.

At the beginning of February, the Russian Federation announced that will reduce oil production up to 500,000 barrels per day in connection with the limit prices set by the West.
