Illegal migrants in Russia will be banned from sending their children to school

The rights of illegal migrants in Russia will be significantly restricted. First deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Alexander Horovoy told Kommersant about this.

Now the authorities are creating a register of foreigners who are in Russia illegally. After entering it, migrants will not be able to drive transport, use banking services, register property, enter into and dissolve marriages, enroll children in kindergartens and schools.

Horovoi also noted that “interested agencies” and deputies are working on other legislative initiatives in the field of migration.

According to Horovoy, there are now about 739 thousand illegal migrants in Russia, or 9% of their total number. Basically, these are citizens of Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan. The official noted that by 2022, the share of illegal migrants was more than 30%, and called the current decrease “a good result of the joint work of the Ministry of Internal Affairs with authorities of all levels.”

Horovoy also said that in the first half of this year, almost a hundred thousand decisions were made to deport migrants from Russia. This is 50% more than in the same period last year.

  • After the terrorist attack in the concert hall “Crocus City Hall”, as a result of which 145 people died and more than 550 were injured, xenophobic sentiments towards migrants intensified in Russia. Law enforcement agencies regularly raid foreigners’ homes and workplaces.
  • The flow of migrants to Russia, which has fallen to a minimum in 10 years, can seriously aggravate the personnel crisis in the country, according to economists.
