In Berdyansk, a judge who cooperated with the Russian authorities was killed in the explosion
In Berdyansk, Zaporozhye Region, which is under the control of Russian troops, on Wednesday, the car of the judge of the Chernihiv District Court, Vitaly Lomeiko, was blown up. The judge died.
The Main Intelligence Office of Ukraine reported the death of Lomeiko. The message did not directly state that the GUR was involved in the attempt, but it says: “The fate of Vitaly Lomeiko, who was involved in the repression of Ukrainians during the occupation and war crimes, is a reminder to all traitors that serving the executioners of the Ukrainian people is dangerous for health and life.”
After Berdyansk was captured by Russian troops in February 2022, Lomeiko stayed in the city and began to cooperate with the new administration. In November 2022, the Supreme Council of Justice of Ukraine received from him an application for voluntary dismissal, but it was considered only in May 2023 and left without satisfaction, since the council could not establish whether Lomeiko decided to leave the post voluntarily or under duress, and to contact he failed.
In addition, the Ukrainian authorities launched an investigation into Lomeiko on suspicion of treason.
- Pro-Russian collaborators in eastern Ukraine and employees of Russian civil administrations regularly become victims of assassination attempts. Killing a non-combatant can be considered a war crime. The Russian authorities accuse the Ukrainian special services of the attempts. They do not directly take responsibility for it.
