The occupying authorities of Crimea plan to recruit more than 10% of schoolchildren into the ranks of the Russian youth military organization Yunarmiya. This was reported by the human rights organization “Crimea SOS”. According to human rights activists, the deputy head of the occupation government of Crimea, Olena Romanovska, said that by the end of 2024, they plan to recruit 10% of schoolchildren to participate in the military organization. Participation in the organization is voluntary, however, as human rights defenders “Crimea SOS” note, children and school administrations are required to join in various ways. According to human rights defenders, in this way children are drawn into the military conflict from childhood and form the image of the enemy state – Ukraine. “In fact, children in the occupied territories of Ukraine are instilled from childhood with a willingness to “sacrifice themselves for the motherland”, admiration for “Russian greatness” and the new “heroes” of the so-called “special operation”. Children are also shaped by “own-alien” narratives and the image of Ukraine as the main enemy of Russia,” the organization says. The regional headquarters of “Unarmy” has been operating in Crimea since 2019. According to the website of the organization, it is indicated that currently there are more than 1 million children, 30 thousand of whom are from Crimea. “Yunarmiya” forms a positive motivation to fulfill the constitutional duty and prepares young men for service in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation”, – they write on the website of the organization.
