71-year-old Frenchman Dominique Pelicot, who accused in the organization of dozens of cases of rape of his own wife, admitted his guilt.
In court, the man confessed to numerous crimes committed over 11 years, informs The Washington Post.
At least 35 other accused men who, with the consent of Dominique Pelico, committed violence against his wife Giselle, deny the charges. They claim that they allegedly believed that the invitation was part of the couple’s sexual fantasies, informs Le Monde.
“I’m a rapist, just like everyone else in this room. They can’t say otherwise.”71-year-old Peliko said in the courtroom.
He testified that he never forced the other men to do anything.
“They were looking for me themselves. They asked me, I said yes. I didn’t handcuff any of them to make them come.”– added Dominique Pelico.
Earlier investigation establishedthat Giselle Pelicot suffered at least 92 rapes by unknown people, which were planned by her husband Dominique.
According to the prosecutors, with the help of the Internet, the Frenchman found people willing to commit a crime and invited them to his home. Without her knowledge, he gave his wife crushed sedatives, which made her unconscious.
In order not to wake up Giselle, her husband installed strict “rules” that those willing to rape his wife had to follow. In particular, rapists were forbidden to wear the scent of perfume or smoke.
Giselle claims she was unaware of the repeated rapes, but was experiencing troubling symptoms including memory loss, hair loss, abdominal pain and mild cervical inflammation.
The woman believed that these symptoms could indicate Alzheimer’s disease or cancer.
The police managed to identify 50 of the 72 men who committed violence against Giselle. Together with Dominic, they will stand trial. The vast majority of defendants face up to 20 years in prison.
Giselle Pelico insisted that court hearings take place in an open mode. The victim explained her position as a desire to tell the world about the crimes.
The court is expected to make a final decision on the accused men in late December 2024.
