In Khmelnytskyi region, a three-year-old child saved the life of her mother, who was tried to be strangled by an attacker

In the Khmelnytskyi region, a man attacked a woman, but felt sorry for the child, who asked not to touch her mother. The details of the case were disclosed in the Khmelnytskyi Court of Appeal. According to the case file, on December 12, 2022, a 54-year-old man broke into the yard of the family’s house, which he helped with the household for money, in the village of Solobkivtsi, Yarmolynetsk Territorial Community. He caught and strangled three domestic ducks in the barn. The hostess came to the noise and, recognizing the thief, threatened to call her husband. The intruder began to beat her with his fists and a crowbar that he found in the barn, and tried to strangle her. A three-year-old boy came to the barn after his mother. He recognized the uncle who was having dinner with them at the same table an hour ago, and asked to let his mother go. The attacker spared the child and left the woman alone. However, he ordered her to be silent, and if she told anyone, he threatened to set fire to the house. Photo: SergPoznanskiy/Depositphotos However, the woman turned to the police. Law enforcement officers found the perpetrator 10 days later in Ivano-Frankivsk, where he was hiding with relatives. At the court hearing, the attacker said that for about a year, together with his wife, they were temporarily cheating on the victim’s husband. They had a good relationship: they had lunch and dinner together, the employer bought them food, helped them with money. On the day of the attack, the husband and wife were helping the family with cutting up pig meat. According to the defendant, they were given only UAH 200 for two, fed and given a ride home. The man was outraged that his employers did not give him meat, so he returned and wanted to steal the ducks. The attacker says that he hit the landlady only once with his hand. However, according to the forensic medical examination, the victim’s bodily injuries “could have resulted from no less than 66 traumatic actions”, 8 of which (in particular, two fatal blows from a blunt hard object) were inflicted on the head and five on the neck. When choosing the measure of punishment, the court took into account that the previously unconvicted accused had committed a serious crime. The court did not establish circumstances that would mitigate or aggravate his punishment. The man was sentenced under Part 4 of Article 187 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (robbery combined with breaking into another premises, committed under martial law), which provides for 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property. The verdict has not yet entered into legal force and may be appealed in the appeals court. Read also: A priest who tried to beat his wife and father-in-law was tried in Lviv
