The regime of the counter-terrorist operation in the Belgorod region, introduced after the penetration of an armed group from the territory of Ukraine into the region, has been canceled. This was reported by Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov.

A special regime was established on May 22 after an attack by armed men on several villages bordering Ukraine. According to the latest data from the authorities, 12 people were injured.

Gladkov also told about the death of two people. A local resident born in 1941 died during the evacuation. A resident of the village of Kozinka, judging by Gladkov’s report, could have been killed in the shelling. The publication “Baza” writes that the cause of death was a shrapnel wound.

The Ministry of Defense of Russia reported the death of 70 people from a group that entered the territory of the Bryansk region. There is no official data on losses among the Russian military. According to “Kommersant”, two servicemen were killed, four received shrapnel wounds. It is not possible to promptly confirm these data.

Representatives of the Russian Volunteer Corps (RDK) and the “Freedom of Russia” legion assumed responsibility for the raids. These formations fighting on the side of Ukraine allegedly consist of Russian citizens.

In the afternoon of May 23, the telegram channels associated with the RDC and Svoboda Rossii said that the operation was not completed, and that the Russian side did not have the resources to respond to military crises.

Andrey Yusov, the representative of the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, said on May 22 that an operation was underway to create a “security zone” in the Belgorod Region. This is the first such application. As a rule, the Ukrainian military does not comment on allegations of shelling or sabotage on Russian territory.

The adviser of the office of the President of Ukraine, Mykhailo Podolyak, in turn, wrote that in Kyiv “they follow the events with interest”, but do not have a “direct relationship” to them.
