In the west of the American state of Wisconsin, 43-year-old Ryan Bierman was attacked by a wounded bear and began to tear his face and bite his limbs.
The 12-year-old son of the Aries man intervened in the situation, who shot the wild animal, informs The Telegraph.
One day in September, the father took the day off and let his son skip school to go bear hunting with him.
As notes AP News, while hunting in the thick woods near their family home, Ryan and Aries spotted a black bear. The boy shot at the animal, but he only managed to injure the animal, after which it ran away.
Father and son used a dog to track down a wounded bear. After some time they came across the animal.
“We seemed to be hovering in the thicket when we heard the dog yelp and rush past us, retreating.”– said Ryan.
Suddenly, a wild animal rushed at the man from a distance of about 2 meters. Ryan managed to fire eight shots from the gun at the bear, but all of them missed.
“I fell on my back before I knew it. I started hitting him (the bear – ed.) with the gun and it felt like I was hitting a brick wall.”– Ryan Bayerman recalls the events of that day.
Later, the wounded bear pounced on the man’s head, biting his limbs and tearing his face.
“I only saw its claws and teeth. I remember the first bite, I heard crunches. The bear was still attacking and wasn’t going to leave me alone.”the man says.
Ryan estimates that the fight with the 90-pound bear lasted about 45 seconds.
“The bear fought for his life, and I fought for mine”he remarked.
Then 12-year-old Aries fired a rifle, aiming at the animal.
“I was lying on my back and I felt the bullet go through the bear. Aries shot that bear, it died on me”– said Bayerman.
Due to the injuries received, 43-year-old Ryan was bleeding profusely. Neighbors called an ambulance and medics took him to the hospital. The man said that he could not even call his wife on his own, because the screen of his phone was covered in blood.
As a result of the encounter with the wild animal, Ryan received seven puncture wounds and a cut, and doctors applied 23 stitches to his cheek.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, the father and son were hunting legally.
