Iran announced the launch of a new satellite into orbit
The Aerospace Forces of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps have announced the launch of a new satellite, Chamran-1. The device weighing 60 kilograms was launched into an orbit of 660 kilometers, the state news agency IRNA confirms.
The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps, which launched the satellite, is recognized by the US authorities as a terrorist organization. The task of “Chamran-1”, according to official data, will be to study the capabilities of the satellite’s navigation system, electronics and maneuvering technologies in space, the Iranian service of Radio Liberty reports.
The satellite was launched into orbit by the Gaem-100 launch vehicle, this is its second successful launch in an hour. A solid-fuel rocket can be launched from a mobile launcher and can potentially be used for military purposes.
The United States previously stated that the launches of Iranian satellites contradict the UN Security Council resolution. Washington urged Tehran not to take any action related to ballistic missiles capable of delivering nuclear weapons. UN sanctions related to Iran’s missile program expired last October.
