Israel continues to strike Hezbollah targets in Lebanon
The Israel Defense Forces continued to strike targets of the radical Hezbollah group in southern Lebanon on Sunday night. As the IDF press service stated, “dozens” of targets were hit, including missile launchers and ammunition depots.
The Lebanese media reported that there were casualties as a result of the Israeli attack.
On Sunday morning, at least eight rockets were fired from Lebanon into Israel. They fell in a deserted area, no one was hurt.
In addition, the Israeli military reports that an attack drone launched from the Red Sea was intercepted.
The Israeli army did not report the possible start of a ground operation in southern Lebanon. However, American sources do not exclude such a possibility. Now, significant forces of the IDF, including tanks and armored vehicles, are deployed to the Lebanese border. American sources said on Sunday that the IDF may have already started spot operations on the border territory of Lebanon.
- “Hezbollah” is both an armed group and a political party that controls most of the districts with a Shia population in the south of Lebanon. The United States recognized Hezbollah as a terrorist organization, while the European Union recognized only its paramilitary wing as such, but not a political party. The Hezbollah party is represented in the Lebanese parliament.
After the attack on Israel by the radical group “Hamas”, recognized as a terrorist group in the USA and the European Union, on October 7 last year, “Hezbollah” intensified its shelling of the northern part of Israel. Some settlements were evacuated. In response, Israel began striking Hezbollah positions. On September 27, an IDF bombardment destroyed the headquarters of the military wing of Hezbollah, killing the leader of the organization, Hassan Nasrallah.
