UNESCO will help Ukraine restore the Chernihiv region, and the cultural landscape of Chernihiv will receive the status of world heritage. On May 17, the local authorities met with the head of the organization’s office in Ukraine Chiara Bardeski, the Ministry of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure reports on Facebook. “Chernihiv Oblast has decided to develop a comprehensive recovery program, which will involve an understanding of the region’s recovery strategy. It is extremely important that the communities are careful about the preservation of historical and cultural monuments, as evidenced by the active cooperation with UNESCO experts on the inclusion of Chernihiv’s cultural landscape in the world heritage.” – says the message of the Ministry of Reconstruction. The nomination “Cultural landscape of the city of Chernihiv” plans to include the objects of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Ancient Chernihiv”: Complex of the historic center, the former city earthen fortress with all the appropriate buildings (territory of Valu); Yeletsk Mountain with the ensemble of the Yeletsk Monastery and the mound “Black Grave”; Boldyn mountain with a burial mound of the 10th century. and the complex of the Trinity-Illina Monastery. The objects of the National Architectural and Historical Reserve “Ancient Chernihiv” can become a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In general, programs for the comprehensive restoration of communities are actively being developed in 10 regions, and communities are just starting this process in 5 more. “The creation of recovery programs is absolutely necessary for the restart of the economy in communities affected by Russian military aggression, and therefore the return of Ukrainians to their homes,” says Deputy Minister of Community Development, Territories and Infrastructure Nataliya Kozlovska.
