In 2022, billionaire Elon Musk made 142 flights on his private plane, and in some places the flights lasted 13-15 minutes.

This is discussed in the material Bloomberg.

Just last year, the billionaire made 142 flights covering a distance of 407,000 km. Musk’s plane takes the most flights among America’s wealthiest billionaires, with flights becoming more frequent since Musk bought Twitter.

While the 2,112 metric tons of greenhouse gases released last year from Musk’s jet flights is a tiny fraction of the 8.4 million metric tons Tesla estimates its customers will have avoided in 2021, it’s more than 140 times the carbon footprint the average American.

The tracking of Musk’s plane shows that such movements are partly related to the management of five companies at once: Tesla, SpaceX, Twitter, The Boring Company and Neuralink, which are located in Texas and California. At least part of the reason Musk spends so much time in the air is that he is constantly moving from one headquarters to another.

Some of those flights were very short: in 2022, Musk’s plane made several flights that lasted 15 minutes or less.

In May, for example, it made a 13-minute flight from Hawthorne, California, where SpaceX is headquartered, to Los Angeles International Airport, less than 6 miles away.

Sometimes the plane’s stops were unusually short. So, in December, Musk’s plane took off from Austin, where Tesla’s office is located, to Sacramento, where Twitter’s data center is located, only to turn around and return to Texas 24 minutes later.
