Minister of Education and Science Oksen Lisovyi supported the abolition of school uniforms.
That’s what he’s about stated at the Summit of First Ladies and Gentlemen in Kyiv, writes “Interfax-Ukraine”.
“Abolition of the dress code. These are values. What values are we fighting for? If freedom, then the child should feel free. The external framework is a set of values for another society, and we are building a free society of creative and highly productive people“, the minister explained.
He also emphasized that the free choice of school clothes is a pragmatic issue.
“If we set the framework, requirements, bar from the school, and do not integrate self-regulators in the child through values and the educational process…, then we will not form such a society”– added Oksen Lisovyi.
The minister noted that the dress code was also canceled for the subject “Defense of Ukraine”.
We will remind, recently in the Educational Ombudsman Service declaredthat checks on students’ clothing are unnecessary and illegal.
On the eve of the new school year, parents complained that schools were planning to raid schools regarding the conformity of school uniforms. If the child’s clothes did not match the “white top, black bottom” formula, he could be suspended from classes.
At the same time, from September 1, 2019, the mandatory form became final cancelled by the relevant presidential decree.
