London imposed sanctions against five vessels transporting LNG from Russia

Great Britain on Thursday imposed sanctions against five vessels and related companies involved in the supply of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG). The British government notes that it is the first time it has used such legal powers directly against ships carrying LNG. This is reported by Reuters.

In its statement, the British government recalled that earlier this year, London, together with its allies in the USA and the EU, imposed sanctions on the Arctic LNG 2 project, and since then it was forced to cut production. “Today’s actions are based on this decision and are aimed at participants in projects in the LNG sector, important for future energy production in Russia – the most important source of financing for Putin’s war in Ukraine,” the document says.

The objects of the new restrictive measures were the companies White Fox Ship Management and Ocean Speedstar Solutions OPC. The list of sanctioned courts includes Asya Energy, Pioneer, North Sky, SCF La Perouse and Nova Energy.

Earlier this month, according to Reuters, Great Britain imposed sanctions against 10 vessels of Russia’s “shadow fleet” that allegedly use illegal methods to circumvent Western restrictions on Russian oil.

Moscow criticizes measures taken by the West to limit the export of Russian energy resources. Last year there was an increase in the number of tankers carrying cargo that is not regulated or insured by traditional Western operators.
