“Mukachevo” – very dear and, without exaggeration, a special song for me. It is about the border between “being” and “appearing”, between someone else’s fiction and your reality, between how others paint you and who you really were and are“, the leader of the OE band commented on the release of the song Svyatoslav Vakarchuk.
The singer noted that although this song sounds autobiographical, it is about all Ukrainians: “Listening to it, everyone can find themselves, remember or realize their “Mukachevo”, “Lviv” or “division“.
Vakarchuk said that the song “Mukachevo” is about how important it is to always know who you are.
“The trick is that some people know who they are, some people are searching and can’t find that answer, and some people don’t think about it at all… I have a request for those who find this song: don’t just listen, but hear, feel , and finally meet that boy or girl, that teenager, that young man or girl inside you and ask, “who were you? who are you? do you still ‘hurt’?”” – added the OE leader.
The clip for the composition “Mukachevo” was made in the style of animation. The illustrations for the video were created by Sofia Pokorchak and Sofia Kalin. The drawings were animated by Teymur Bzikadze, Mykola Bagrii, Maksym Kotlyar and Sofia Pokorchak.
Okean Elzy plans to release a new Ukrainian-language album this fall. It will be dedicated to the band’s 30th anniversary.
In addition, at the beginning of this year Vakarchuk announced the first album of songs in English in the history of OE. Musicians work on two records in parallel.
The release date of the English-language album is currently unknown. But in March of this year, on the day of one of the biggest Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities, the band released the first song from this album – Voices Are Rising.
