“My mission is to add smiles”: the chef who brings down the “Shahids” talked about life on the front line. VIDEO

“My mission is to add smiles,” says Yaroslav Gulak with the call sign “Wise” about himself – a fighter of the air defense forces, a senior soldier in the anti-aircraft missile division, a cook and a blogger. Hulak told the “Ukrainian Witness” project about life on the front line and how he manages to find positivity to comfort his brothers even under enemy fire. Before the war, the man lived in Odesa, engaged in the selection of crews for sea vessels, and also worked in the catering system on cruise liners, and now he helps shoot down “Shahids” (Iranian UAVs). Immediately after the full-scale invasion of Russia into Ukraine, Yaroslav, although he was afraid, went to the Military Commissariat, where he declared that he was a cook: the man received the corresponding rank while still a student. “Even my hands were shaking when I filled out the papers. I’m a civilian, my nature repels war,” the soldier of the Armed Forces emphasizes. Yaroslav did not believe until the last that the scenario of a great war was possible – a week before February 24, “Mudry” even drove a “batok” (car) from America, although his acquaintances refused him. “I still don’t believe that this is happening, but I’m already here, performing some function. I’m already a combat unit,” says the man. In the unit, the man performs the role of a charger and not only that: he also cooks for himself and his brothers and even keeps a blog about it on TikTok, in which he humorously talks about everyday life at the front. “Even in the army and in the war, you can find some positive. I don’t show our frozen “charis” and the conditions of our life. This is enough without me. My mission is to add smiles,” emphasizes “Mudriy”. In the video, you can see fragments from videos recorded by Yaroslav at the front – how he prepares “Spanish paella, Uzbek pilaf and Brazilian feijoada” from what is at hand. A military man admits that even at the front he uses a knife and fork: “It’s a simple way to take care of your stomach and health in general. For me, breakfast is the most important thing.” Read also: “The hottest spot on the planet”: Ukrainian snipers talked about the battles in Bakhmut. VIDEO Zenitnyk also expressed his indignation about people who do not want to learn the Ukrainian language. “It’s a simple language! Even a dumbass like me, who barely learned English, speaks Ukrainian. You look at some people who study German and Polish abroad, but they can’t learn Ukrainian. Why? Because there, as long as you if you don’t learn the language, they won’t pay you money,” emphasizes Yaroslav. The military man speaks angrily about the Russians. He believes that “this nation has no right to exist”: “I’m not talking about people, I’m talking about the very essence: in the civilized world, in the world of high technologies, they must be nullified. Russians have no right to exist in the form in which they is now”. According to “Mudrogo”, Russians should be afraid of Ukrainians like fire, and the “gray zone” between the borders of the Russian Federation and Ukraine should be 100 km long.
