The court in Ukraine has once again arrested the assets of former TV presenter Oksana Marchenko, the wife of pro-Russian politician Viktor Medvedchuk. New assets are estimated at 740 million hryvnias (more than 19.8 million dollars). This was reported to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU).

We are talking about shares in 7 enterprises of the port infrastructure in the Odesa region: JSC “Eksymnaftoprodukt”, PJSC “Syntez Oil”, PJSC “Syntez Transit”, LLC “Ukrloadsystem”, JSC “Odesnefteprodukt”, PJSC “Chernomorsky Fuel Terminal” and LLC “Albion Commodity”. According to the SBU, Marchenko owns shares through a number of offshore companies.

The department also noted that these companies have a strategic importance in the transportation of fuel and other critical cargoes through the Black Sea.

“Seizure of assets will protect them from re-registration as fictitious persons and in the future will allow them to be transferred to the benefit of our state,” the SBU said in a statement.

Earlier, the agency announced at least three times about the seizure of Marchenko’s various assets: in February – in the amount of 152.4 million dollars, in March – 11.9 million dollars, in April – more than 27 million dollars.

Marchenko is suspected of financing actions committed with the goal of violent change or overthrow of the constitutional system or seizure of state power, changes in the territory or state borders of Ukraine.

  • Medvedchuk is one of the leaders of the “Opposition Platform – For Life” party, which was banned after the war. His friendship with Vladimir Putin, the president of Russia, is known as the godfather of Medvedchuk’s daughter. Since May 2021, Medvedchuk has been under house arrest in a criminal case of treason. Three days after the start of Russia’s military invasion of Ukraine, it became known about his escape. In April 2022, he was detained and subsequently arrested by the court. In September, the Ukrainian side exchanged Medvedchuk for captured Ukrainian servicemen.
