Poet, writer and aunt of Zhadan Oleksandr Kovalev has died

“Oleksandra Kovaleva – a Ukrainian poet, translator, teacher, public figure – died tonight. my aunt“, the poet wrote.
As they tell in Social Culture, it was his aunt who had a significant influence on him in his youth. Alexander introduced him to writers, politicians, musicians, and journalists who worked at that time and fought for Ukrainian independence. And she also showed Serhiy the Rukhiv literature, which was banned at that time.
Oleksandra Kovaleva had several creative pseudonyms – Olesya Shepitko, Alex Schmidt, Sandra Flusterling. Since 1983, she has been a member of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine. She was the author of more than 50 articles on literature in periodicals and literary and artistic collections.
In 2000, she was a scholarship recipient of the city of Nuremberg. She became the author of publications in such German magazines as Wortlaut, Dullnraamer and Straßenkreuzer.
Her translation works include 13 books, including the editions of Walter Zahork and Manfred Schwab, translations of German poets from the Middle Ages to the middle of the 20th century: “Flow”, “Blakyt”, “Demons of the Cities”, “My German Canon”.
During her lifetime, the poetess wrote several collections, among them “Obriya”, “Steppe Lakes”, “Alphabet of Kindness”, “Autumn Forgiveness”. The collection “On two voices” was published in co-authorship with a German author Nadu Schmidt in Ukrainian and German. And the collection of works “I go to where the grass sleeps” in collaboration with Olga Tilna published in Ukrainian, English and German.
Oleksandra Kovaleva was also a candidate of philological sciences, an associate professor of the faculty of foreign philology of the Kharkiv National Pedagogical University.
