Ukrainian polar explorers from the Antarctic station “Akademik Vernadskyi” showed penguins in the so-called manger. The photos were published by the National Antarctic Science Center. A nursery in Antarctica is called a grouping of penguin cubs when they are too old to be in a nest with adult penguins, but still too young to go to the ocean, scientists explain. “The chicks gather in small groups, which are watched over by several adult penguins. At this time, the parents can go hunting together, and when they return, they feed the babies, and only their own: they distinguish them without mistake,” polar explorers say. Penguins in the manger. Babies learn to swim in the sea and find food on their own after their down changes to feathers. This process continues when they are in the manger, polar explorers add. Now there are about 4.3 thousand of them on the island. Read also: “Little jumpers”: Ukrainian polar explorers showed how penguins jump out of the water
