Putin signed a decree on the retaliatory seizure of foreign assets

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree on retaliatory seizure of foreign assets on Tuesday.

According to the document, in case of confiscation of Russian property in the USA and in other countries that supported sanctions against Moscow, the assets in Russia related to these states will be transferred to temporary management, RBC reports. Three items are now listed in the list of such property: a share in Unipro and two shares in Fortum. The decree signed by Putin transfers them under the temporary management of Rosimushchestvo.

The German concern Uniper owns the majority of the shares of the Unipro energy company. Fortum Russia BV is a joint venture with the participation of the Finnish state energy company.

After the invasion of Ukraine, Moscow introduced a number of restrictions for foreign companies from so-called “unfriendly countries” that supported sanctions against Russia. Among other things, the sale of assets by such companies in Russia requires approval by a government commission. The condition for the approval of transactions is, in particular, a discount of at least 50% from the market value of assets and installment payments, Meduza writes.
