SBU exposed criminals who imported and sold fake cancer drugs to cancer patients

The Security Service of Ukraine exposed an international scheme for the importation of falsified drugs for the treatment of cancer patients into Ukraine. Criminals smuggled fake cancer drugs under the guise of “humanitarian aid” and sold them to cancer patients, the SBU and the Prosecutor General’s Office reported. 40 boxes of fakes worth more than 50 million hryvnias were seized from the perpetrators. The criminal group covertly imported counterfeit medicines from the oncology group under the guise of humanitarian aid. Illegally imported products were stored in unsanitary conditions in rented warehouses in the capital. Payment for the plot was received on the bank cards of relatives and proxy persons, and the goods were sent by mail. Fraudsters imported pseudo-drugs under the guise of humanitarian aid and sold them to cancer patients. Law enforcement officers searched the warehouse and residences of the fraudsters. They found mobile phones and computers with evidence of criminal activity, rough accounting, 3 cars used to deliver “medicine” and more than 20 bank cards, through which the perpetrators paid with customers. The law enforcement officers also identified alleged suppliers of pseudo-drugs – in particular, from Turkey and the countries of the European Union. Counterfeit drugs were probably supplied from Turkey and EU countries. Examinations initiated by the Security Service of Ukraine confirmed that the seized drugs have signs of counterfeiting and do not correspond to the characteristics stated in the “manufacturer’s” instructions. All members of the criminal group were informed of the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 28 and Part 2 of Art. 321-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (falsification of medicinal products or circulation of falsified medicinal products committed by an organized group). A preventive measure was chosen for them – detention. All perpetrators were informed of the suspicion and a preventive measure was chosen. It will be recalled that earlier in Bukovina, the police exposed a scheme of misappropriation of state funds by a medical facility: they “treated” fictitious patients there.
